Roller Derby
Last night I went to my first roller derby here in San Francisco. The Bay City Bombers against the Brooklyn Devils. The venue was an old gymnasium near Kezar stadium. I was surprised to learn that roller derby is a family spectator event. I had honestly expected truckers and parolees to be in attendance. However, because it was a family sport didn't make a difference. The crowd was unruly. From 5yr olds yelling at me to stand up and cheer on the Bombers, to grandma (think Napoleon Dynamite) yelling at the Devils and waving a rubber chicken, it was electrifying.
From the first whistle I found myself screaming and cheering on the Bombers. There is something entertaining about a woman in her 40's checking an even older woman in her 50's and flinging her over the rails. The crowd goes nuts.
The picture you see here was one of many I took at the event. I think this would sum up how I would describe roller derby.

You're saying you don't think any truckers or parolees were there?
Love "Grandma Napoleon Dynamite"!
